If you are a fan of Law & Order you know that Cross Race Identification has been a part of a few episodes. I can see how I might be more efficient in identifying white people as opposed to asians or blacks. It appears the brain has an area that “lights up” with activity when it looks at a face, but not other parts. On patients looking at opposite races it didn’t “light up” quite as much. Incidentally it’s the same area that “lights up” when you look at something you are an expert in. This makes sense since I’d be an “expert” in identifying white people, since I interact with that race the most. I wonder if white people living in Harlem would react to blacks the same as they do to whites. The story is here.

Parents do the strangest things
Apparently, some parents aren’t as cool as mine. Here is a story of a father who limited his children’s bathroom activity in an effort to make them study more. On top of it he threatened his daughter’s life when she placed second in the national spelling bee. What a loser.
HAHAHAHA
Someone has finally put into words what I’ve thought for so long. A little background… Jon Katz seems to review a lot of movies for Slashdot (no link – they’re worthless) and everytime he says the movies sucks – run out to see it, I garantee it will be a great movie.
Man Divorces Wife by Text Message
You’ve gotta be kidding me! Here is a story of a man divorcing a woman via text. I, personally, have trouble understanding Middle Eastern cultures – but to each his own I guess.
Move over Big Brother – here comes …
Acme Rent-a-Car? Here is an extremely creepy story about Acme tracking the speed of rental cards and assessing fines when speed limits are broken. I have a feeling Uncle Sam is gonna be ticked that others are invading his pockets. It brings up all sorts of issues about privacy, due process, etc.
