KDE is starting to catch my attention. For years I’ve used Enligthenment but now that KDE is getting a little more robust I’m liking it. I’ve started to use it exclusively on the laptop. Here is a screenshot. One thing to try is to change your clock’s type to “fuzzy” – what a wh00t!

REALLY Scary!
The Honeynet Project has posted some scary stats in their FAQ. It makes me wonder how hax0r3d my b0x is.
Code Red Worm
After reading this article I went and read this article at CERT and decided to look through my logs. It seems the Code Red worm tried to connect 23 times to my webserver. No luck though – I run Apache.
Open Source debate and Brain eating Linux
New Book
If you haven’t noticed, the biography of Linus Torvalds (creator of Linux) is out. I’ve been slowly reading it where men do their reading and I must say Linus is just as good at writing as he is at coding. On top of it all it’s inspired me to move onward and upward in my quest to become the ultimate geek (minus the big beard). You can find it on Amazon here.
A story of an outage
Everyone who’s had anything to do with “Enterprise” hardware can completely relate to this experience. Slashdot and most of OSDN went down. The part about the tech support numbers is especially funny.
AOLos?
Due to the recent snafu between AOL and Microsoft over placement of AOL in Windows XP, one has to wonder if AOL will toss its hat into the OS arena. They could, of course, make their own Linux distro. However, I would think a purchase of BeOS would be more in line with their strategy. And with as many uses as AOL has – this could be the end of Microsoft.
Geek – Introvert or Genius?
Here is a great story about breaking the stereotypes that surrounds the term “Geek”. I personally wear my geekness like a badge, but others still feel it emits “loser”. The story is centered around geek girls, but you get the point.
New computer
Well I bought a new GHz from Affordable Computers, Inc. the other day. It’s a fatty 1GHz with the new Asus mobo. I need to get a few OS’s up and running on it and then I’ll be able to be smoking!
SPARC and Debian
I have a bunch of SPARC boxes that I bought of ebay a few weeks ago. Since I’m finally settled in I have gotten a chance to play with them. Two of them installed without incident – the SPARC Classic and the SPARC Station LX. Thus they are sporting debian stickers. My IPC has a bad NVRAM chip – but I plan on recycling the external hard drive and the ram for my other machines. I also got a IBM P200 monitor for suns (it’s 21in and awesome!). All in all it’s been fun!
