Please wait for the next available moron

Since I’ve been moving I had to do the obligatory calls to the local utility companies. Amazingly, a person from Comcast picked up and had me taken care of in less than five minutes.

DTE, our local energy company, was a different story. After navigating the menus to transfer my service I was told to enter my phone number. I did and was put on hold for the next available operator. After waiting for about 10 minutes an operator gets on the phone and immediately asks me for my phone number! Didn’t I just enter that? Aren’t you and your voice automated system connected? Didn’t the system say to enter the phone number to speed up this whole process? ARGH! At any rate, after a few minutes on the phone with her everything was taken care of.

The new place is nice. It’s a big three bedroom apartment on the third floor of an old house across the street from campus. Interesting side note: I live in the same room the Michigan Murderer lived in when he went to EMU.

DVD Addiction

I’ve recently found myself addicted to DVD’s. That, combined with my recent fascination with books, is going to proove quite time consuming. I especially am interested in boxed seasons of my favorite shows.

In other news I’ve been ponding some upgrades to the site. Top on my list is the ability to add funny quotes to each posting (a la starkdavingmad.com) as well as fulltext searching. If you actually use this site let me know what you would like to see.

Merry Christmas

I hope everyone has had as good of a Christmas as I have so far. I’ve recieved some really nice presents from Lauren’s family. Lauren bought me a desktop refrigerator that is going to be promptly placed on my desk when I get to work. Hope all is well!

People Above

To all you dog lovers out there: You suck monkey butt. Dogs are big, loud, and annoying. Yes, I admit it, I’m a cat lover. I have a cat named Crash, after Crash Override, and he’s the bomb. He comes when he’s called, but leaves you alone if you don’t want to play. He stays out of the kitchen (most of the time) and has a great personality.

The reason I bring this up is because the people upstairs have a dog and an elephant, I think. I’m constantly kept up by this stupid thing doing wind sprints every night above my head.

Hopefully, the next place I live will have a No Dog policy in place, but I’m not holding my breath. I have horrible luck with apartments and those who live above me. Last year it was an insomniac who was constantly pacing back and forth at all hours of the day.

MBA in my future

I’ve been thinking more and more about pursuing my MBA. Since I went to a cheap school for my undergrad, I’ve been checking out some of the more prestigous business schools in the country. I’d love to go to Stanford, but a more realistic option is the University of Michigan.

Why an MBA you might be asking yourself? I know that I’m not going to be programming for the rest of my life and an MBA will open many doors for me. Of course the average starting salaries don’t hurt either.

The road ahead

After finishing a group project which included a Visual Basic program with a MS Access backend, a 90 page resource paper on said project, and a ten minute presentation on said project, I’ll be spending the rest of tonight celebrating at various bars throughout Ypsilanti.

With only 6 credits left until graduation, 3 being Art Appreciation, I’ve been thinking more and more what I’m going to do with my life. Luckily, Lauren has another year left, giving me one more year to ponder what I’ll become. My initial thoughts are towards world domination, but I’m more realistic than that.

I think I’ll end up working part time at my current place of employment while growing Jerum into something I can live off of. So if you are a small business owner looking for a web presence let me know. Other plans include taking a few days off to go to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and possibly Europe.

This leads me to another thing I’ve noticed. I haven’t travled nearly as much as I have wanted to. It’s overwhelming how many places there are in the world that I haven’t been to or experienced. I’m thankful Lauren likes travelling, since we’ll be doing a lot of it together in the near term.

Apple, Credit, and Classes

After hearing moonkhan gloat about his iPod, I’ve decided to purchase one. I’m torn on which one I should get. The 5GB one seems too small, while the 20GB seems too expensive. On the other hand if I get the 10GB I just know that I will wish I had purchased the 20GB one in a few months. Once I finally do make up my mind I have to decide between purchasing a new one or a used one off of eBay. Once I finally DO purchase one I promise I will post a review here. In other Apple news I found an extremely funny site called Crazy Apple Rumors via mrbarrett.com. The site instantly reminded me of the satire I wrote about iApp.

After shifting some money around I was finally able to pay off all of my credit cards. I will be promptly cancelling all but two of my credit cards. One I’m keeping to reserve hotels, cars, etc. and the other I’m keeping because it offers low balance transfers. A side note to anyone who has a credit card: The Great Credit Card Bazaar.

I registered for my last two undergraduate classes. In April I will officially be a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. I will graduate with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I plan on staying in the area for a year or so while Lauren finishes school and then we plan to head off to an, as of yet, undecided big city.

Fall TV Lineup

I’ve been watching way too much TV. Boston Public is my new favorite show now that Ally was canceled. My close second favorite is Hidden Hills. If you haven’t seen it check it out – it’s REALLY funny. Rounding out my top five are Friends (of course – I feel aweful admitting this – it’s so cliche), Will and Grace, and Seinfeld (oldie, but goodie). I haven’t heard much about one of my favorite shows from last year, The Shield. It was an amazing show that really broke many rules.

Blogging for fun

For the past three (or is it four?) years I’ve been maintaining this blog for mainly my own amusement. Through the years you have seen me move across country, move back, rewrite and redisign this site, and threaten to move to Canada. The short end of this walk down memory lane is that this “blog” is here for my amusement. Most of what I write is totally useless. I say this in response to a recent post on debris.com where he says it’s a weblogging foul to admit you have nothing to say. It has been my experience that most bloggers have nothing to say, but millions of people blog every day and millions more read what we say. I believe this is why Seinfeld was so popular (a show about nothing).

Must … eat … soon …

I’ve been recovering rather quickly from my recent oral surgery. The doctor gave me a whole bottle of pain killers that I’ve barely touched. Today I was able to eat some solids, which was nice. However, I really need to sit down and eat a real meal. Yesterday I had a small apple sauce, a chicken wrap, and a sandwich … that was it … the entire day. My stomach is growling …
